For modern I.C. engines ECO oil filter cartridges are often applied instead of spin-on filters. One of the reasons is that they do not contain any metal elements. These cartridges, similar to the traditionall ones, are installed in dismountable casings, which are an integral part of the engine. The replacement of an used filter cartridge requires more experience than the replacement of a spin-on filter. There is a greater potential risk of leaving the gathered contaminats in the housing or getting them into the oil system during improper proceedings. However, the advantages of using ECO cartridges being mainly the easy utilization, encourage the engine constructors to use them more often.
